April brings flowers, rain showers, and Easter celebrations for Bitner Henry Insurance Group. As we reflect on our past and look to the future, we both celebrate retiring agents and welcome new ones.

As agents reach their retirement years, we are blessed that we have often been able to bring in agents who can work with the senior agents before taking on the sales and service territories of the retiring agents.

North Carolina

Bruce Harriman

Bruce Harriman

We recently celebrated the retirement of Bruce Harriman, one of the first agents and founding members of American Church Group of North Carolina. Bruce has always been known for his strong commitment to his clients and genuine passion for supporting ministry. Now in retirement, he and his wife embark on a new adventure, focusing on disaster relief, overseas missions, and perfecting his BBQ skills. You can watch a video about his retirement here.

Derek Gard

Derek Gard

Derek Gard, a former missions executive with Brotherhood Mutual, has taken over Bruce’s territory.  After a year with Bitner Henry, Derek Gard has launched into a mission to serve not just churches and nonprofits but mission-sending organizations as well. Derek spent nearly a year working with Bruce and meeting the customers he would later serve directly.

Christine Capps also celebrates her first anniversary with the agency, serving western North Carolina.  After decades as a real estate agent, Christine was ready to find deeper meaning in her work.   Her faith and care for others were tested after the flooding in North Carolina directly affected her friends and neighbors.

Georgia

Joe Coombs

Joe Coombs, another decorated agent from northwest Georgia, also celebrates his retirement this year after a 50-year insurance career. He looks forward to more time to take ocean cruises, read, and tend to his 40-acre plot of Georgia piney-woods. You can watch a video about his retirement here.

Ken Bird, an agent based in Gwinnet County, retired in 2023.  He now spends time with his four grandchildren, playing golf, and exploring the mountains of North Carolina with his wife. You can find his retirement announcement here.

Craig Mosgrove joined the Bitner Henry team in 2023. He was able to work with both Ken and Joe as he transitioned into insurance.  As a pastor at Dwelling Place Church in Woodstock, Craig serves Georgia with a service-minded attitude. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, playing sports with his three children, hunting, fishing, and watching Tennessee Vols football.

Dalton Hardeman

Dalton joined the Bitner-Henry team in 2024 and was also able to learn under the guidance of Joe Coombs. Previously a wrestling coach and former wrestler at Truett McConnell University, Dalton turned his sights to serving nonprofits and churches in Metro Atlanta. With a degree in business administration, he looks forward to serving Georgia.

Mid-Atlantic

Lucas Payson

Lucas Payson

Lucas is based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and started in 2025 with the agency.  He brings a diverse background including overseas missions work, a Bachelors of Science in Music, and experience as an audio Sales Engineer. Ultimately, his love of understanding technical topics and a desire to help others, especially those related to ministries, led him to this new career.

Travis Copeland

Travis Copeland

Formerly an Operations Manager for FedEx Ground, Travis joined the Bitner Henry team as an in-house account executive in 2025. With his new role in insurance, he looks forward to learning a new philosophy and dynamic, working together with others to help them find the best insurance possible.

The passing of Harold Henry

Unfortunately, we end the departures on a sobering note: the passing of Harold Henry, former president of Bitner Henry Insurance and father of Stephen Henry. During his tenure, he played a vital role in the growth and stability of Bitner Henry Insurance. Our agency and community will deeply miss his dedication to the community and his warm presence. You can find his obituary here.

In Memory of Harold Henry

As April turns to May, Bitner Henry Insurance reflects on fond memories of the previous generation of insurance agents while looking toward the future with a new guard ready to help churches and nonprofits find safety through insurance.
