It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Harold Henry, former president of Bitner Henry Insurance and father of Stephen Henry. Born in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, Harold became the agency’s president in 1967, following in his father-in-law’s footsteps.

During his tenure, he played a vital role in the growth and stability of Bitner Henry Insurance. His dedication to the community and his warm presence will be deeply missed.

Harold Edgar Henry Obituary

Harold Edgar Henry, 95, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Monday, April 7, 2025, at  Homewood Hilltop Assisted Living.

Born Wednesday, September 4, 1929, in Greencastle, PA, he was the son of the late Edgar Henry and the late Mary (Roth) Henry. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Miriam Louise Henry.

Harold graduated from Greencastle High School in 1947, after high school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. He joined his father-in-law’s insurance agency in 1955, became President in 1967 and continued until his retirement in 2000.

Harold was a former member of Grace Brethren Church. He later became a member of Paramount Baptist Church. He was one of the original board members of Cedar Ridge Children’s Home. Harold was an avid antique car enthusiast  and served on the national board of the Antique Automobile Club of America.

He is survived by his son, Stephen H. Henry and wife Carol, grandson, Daryl S. Henry and wife Judy, grandson, Andrew D. Henry and fiancé Anjali, grandson, Joel B. Henry, great-grandchildren, Benjamin L. Henry and Eleanor M. Henry, sister-in-laws, Annabelle Henry, Nancy Henry and Lois Tamkin.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, John “Dick” Henry, sister, Helen Overcash, sister, Lucile Taber, brother, Owen Henry, brother, Daryl Henry and brother-in-law, Robert Bitner.

Services will be held Friday, April 11, 2025, at 2:30 pm, at the Paramount Baptist Church, 13234 Marsh Pike Hagerstown, MD, with Pastor Frank H. Duncan officiating.

Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD on Thursday, April 10, 2025,  from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Interment will be at the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, MD.
