At Bitner Henry, we believe the church’s primary mission is service, not self-preservation. This commitment to safety was at the heart of the Safer Churches workshop held on March 5th at Christ Covenant Church in Atlanta.
Our own Craig Mosgrove (Insurance Executive and Co-Pastor of Dwelling Place Church) joined a coalition of leaders from the Evangelical Council for Abuse Prevention (ECAP), the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee, and Rehoboth Church Family to address the critical need for abuse prevention and survivor care.
Through various Bible teachings and breakout sessions, denominational leaders and safety experts emphasized that “Safer” is a journey, not a destination, and one that churches should continuously strive to be on every day. During the session, Craig highlighted the moral weight of this work: “How we treat our children will be what unravels us as a nation. We [the church] are not about self-preservation; we are there to serve people.”
The workshop provided practical blueprints for ministry protection, covering topics from digital safety to theological responses to abuse. The goal is clear: ensuring the well-being of the vulnerable is placed above all else.
