Bitner Henry Insurance Group is an independent insurance agency that works to secure insurance coverage for recovery programs in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Washington D.C., and other states. Daryl Henry is a manager partner of the agency. He has focused on the insurance program for addiction treatment centers, sober homes, and mental health or substance use disorder programs.
Daryl is a fourth-generation partner of the agency with over 16 years of experience. He is also a Certified Insurance Counselor and Certified Risk Manager. Daryl lives in Frederick, Maryland, with his family. He serves clients in the Maryland counties of Frederick, Montgomery, Carroll, Howard, and Washington, as well as treatment center clients on the East Coast and in the South.
For Daryl, running a rehabilitation center means many things, including helping people and saving lives.
“I often find clients who are looking for ways to protect their programs through insurance, wondering what kind of insurance treatment centers need, and wondering what parts of their rehabilitation work are covered under insurance. Some people haven’t found insurance that is aligned with their organization or an agent who understands their problems,” he says.
Daryl found himself first drawn to recovery programs when he realized how much insurance impacts the organizations he insures. Not only can the right insurance protect a vulnerable organization and those it serves, but the organization can also use the money it saves towards the mission of helping people in recovery.
“That’s what makes this job so rewarding for me,” he writes. “These savings are making a difference in people’s lives, and I want to continue to help.”
Since then, he has worked with mental health agencies and programs to help them find better coverage and pay less for their insurance. Recently, he helped one mental health agency to save 85% on their Workers’ Compensation Insurance alone. “With a tweak to their classification, I saved another recovery organization tens of thousands of dollars annually.”
So, what should a recovery center consider when deciding what agency or agent to work with? For Daryl, it’s about experience and dedication to service.
“My general advice for organizations looking for an agent is to find one that serves a large volume of businesses like yours. When your agent has worked with similar programs, issues that matter will seem more obvious to them than to a person with less experience in your industry. It can also indicate that the agent is comfortable with that industry and has a commitment to the mission of recovery centers.”
